Clinical Rotation, Mumbai
| Introduction |
|
ISAC offers an exciting clinical rotation in Mumbai. Students work with local doctors and specialists in surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, oncology and internal medicine. Students can also work in the area of Aids/HIV.
The program gives students a chance to learn about health problems faced by communities in an urban setup. Students participate in outpatient clinics, ward rounds and observe surgeries and other medical procedures. This program offers great learning opportunities for pre-meds, medical students, public health students and nursing students who are interested in International health.

Pre-departure orientation and support, airport pickup, all clinical rotations, placement support and monitoring, 24 hour emergency support, personal cellular phone. |

Daily local transportation. Air ticket to India, visa fees and any travel insurance will be the responsibility of the student. Airport drop at the end of the program. |

The hospitals are poorly equipped and any donations of simple medical supplies like bandages, vitamins, sutures etc are welcome! |

| Program Details |
|
Students can rotate in various clinical specialties ranging from general surgery, to gynecology, pediatrics and oncology. The program offers an excellent overview of the Indian health care system in an urban setup. Day trip to nearby leprosy hospital can also be organized for those interested in infectious disease. |

| What do I do on the program? |
Program places students with local doctors in a variety of clinical settings. Over the 4 weeks the students can participate in the following:
- HOSPITALS/NURSING HOMES: Work with doctors in a general and surgical hospital. Apart from shadowing doctor during OPD consultations, the student get good opportunity to observe general and oncology related surgeries. Other specialized hospitals include maternity homes and/or children's hospital.
- HIV/AIDS: Be part of the medical as well as the outreach program of organization working for people affected and infected by HIV/ AIDS. Also, participate in various educational camps held in schools for adolescent girls and boys on issues related to sexual health vis-à-vis HIV AIDS.
- LEPROSY: A day trip to Leprosy hospital can also be arranged for interested students.
- Day trips to large municipal hospitals can also be arranged.

Mumbai is an international city with many attractions. Mumbai also has a vibrant nightlife that ranges from simple pubs to hi-tech discos and glamorous nightclubs. Its location is convenient for short weekend trips to many beaches and resorts in India including Goa. |

| Who can participate? |
|
This program is ideal for pre-medical, medical, nursing and other allied health professionals interested in participating in a clinical rotation in an urban area. No prior experience or other training required. Participants must be over 20 years of age easygoing and flexible. They must be committed to working with underserved communities. Students must be open minded, willing to take initiative to contribute and learn from their environment and be respectful to their surroundings. Individuals or groups can apply to the program. |
